Nanoarchaeota (Greek, "dwarf or tiny ancient one") is a proposed phylum (Candidatus Nanoarchaeota) in the domain Archaea that currently has only one representative, Nanoarchaeum equitans, which was discovered in a submarine hydrothermal vent and first described in 2002.
