Western Avenue is one of three boundary streets between Washington, D.C., and the state of Maryland. It runs about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) due northeast from Westmoreland Circle to Oregon Avenue NW. First proposed in 1893, it was constructed somewhat fitfully from about 1900 to 1931.
