Joanne Roberts is the third President and Professor of Social Sciences (Economics) at Yale-NUS College, the first liberal arts college in Singapore. She is also a professor at the National University of Singapore, Department of Economics. She also serves as Vice President (Humanities and Social Sciences Research)-Designate at National University of Singapore from 1 January to 30 June 2025, during which time she continues to serve as President of Yale-NUS College. Beginning July 1, 2025, she will serve as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty at Bates College.
Roberts obtained her bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Waterloo in 1993. She earned both her Master's and PhD degrees in economics from Queen's University in 1995 and 1998, respectively.
She is a Canadian citizen and held multiple leadership positions in the Economics profession in Canada prior to her move to Singapore.
